Matt Simon, professionally known as Guapo Music, is an American artist and record producer born on November 5, 2003, in Boston, Massachusetts. Unlike many who start their journey with a childhood love for music, Guapo’s path began differently. Growing up, he was more focused on basketball than beats. That changed in high school when a friend, csol, introduced him to FL Studio. From that moment on, Guapo began experimenting, producing, and eventually taking music more seriously as time passed.
For Guapo, creativity is about feeling. He avoids sticking to one sound, letting his mood guide the direction of his work. “I feel a certain type of way depending on what music I’m making honestly,” he explains. His process is fluid, spontaneous, and rooted in chasing whatever energy inspires him at the moment.
Guapo’s sound has evolved since his early days of producing heavy trap beats. Today, he leans into internet-inspired music while still carrying that raw energy forward. His biggest influences come from producers rather than vocalists, with Swishrr and 15drtt shaping the way he approaches his craft. His mission is simple: push the wave forward.
Guapo wants his music to remind people that it does not always have to be serious. Whether producing or performing, he believes fun is the foundation of creativity. For him, music is about enjoying the process, experimenting with sounds, and seizing the moment when things come together.
Breaking into the industry has not been easy. “Getting your foot through the door is tuff,” Guapo admits. With so many young, talented producers emerging, competition is fierce. But instead of being discouraged, he uses the fast pace of the industry to his advantage, pushing himself to generate fresh ideas weekly.
One of Guapo’s most rewarding experiences has been building genuine connections through Instagram. Sharing beats has opened doors to collaborations with talented producers worldwide. His proudest project to date is osulliguap, a collaboration with his longtime friend and mentor csol. The project, created over the summer, represents a full-circle moment working alongside the person who first introduced him to production.
As Guapo continues to grow, he has his eyes set on expanding beyond producing. After six years behind the boards, he recently stepped to the mic and now aims to release a tape entirely produced, written, performed, and arranged by himself. Personally and professionally, he is focused on honing his skills, pushing his sound further, and staying true to the fun and freedom that sparked his love for music in the first place.
