From Freestyles to Stages: The Rise of Prince W.

Written by Alexandria Anglade

Prince W. found his passion for music through the influence of his brother. Watching him create and share songs left a lasting impression, especially the joy and energy that lit up his eyes whenever music was involved. Inspired by that spark, Prince W. began freestyling with friends, recording in small studio spaces from storage units to house setups, and eventually built his own home studio to fully commit to his musical journey.

When it comes to creativity, Prince W. grounds his process in discipline and routine. Whether it is hitting the gym, working on beats, or reading, he uses these activities as fuel to generate inspiration. While motivation sometimes comes naturally, these steps help him consistently unlock his artistic flow.

Prince W.’s sound is a unique blend of trap, boom bap, and R&B. He enjoys weaving singing into his tracks when it complements the music, adding depth and emotion to his work. He draws influence from legendary artists like Jay Z, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Big L, and Kenny Mason, as well as from genres such as hip hop, soul, rock, jazz, and R&B.

The heart of his message is love, positivity, and peace. He believes these values are the keys to bringing people together and achieving something greater for communities and the world at large. Love is the emotion he strives to communicate most, but his songwriting is always guided by the raw honesty of the moment, allowing him to stay authentic and free from writer’s block.

Like many artists, Prince W. has faced challenges with negativity, self-doubt, and being overly critical of himself.

He admits there were times when it felt difficult to rise again. Yet, through acceptance, living in the present, and processing his emotions, he has learned that perseverance always leads upward.

Despite the struggles, his career already has rewarding highlights. He has been featured on his state’s radio station KRCL 90.9, performed at Juneteenth events, earned coverage in Slug Magazine, and taken the stage at Craft Lake City and more. These milestones reinforce his belief in staying consistent and committed.
