What first sparked drtyndn’s love for music was not a studio or expensive gear but boredom and curiosity. Stuck at home one day, he opened GarageBand on his iPhone and started experimenting with beats. They were not perfect, but he saw potential in the weird sounds paired with his funny energy.
Growing up in the late-2000s internet era with an iPod Nano and LimeWire playlists, music was always part of his world. His years in school band playing saxophone taught him structure, while his delusional confidence taught him to dream big. Even now, he produces mostly on iPad apps like Logic, proving that limited tools can create something original and authentic.
As a producer first, drtyndn focuses on experimentation. His songs often start with energy rather than lyrics, a rhythm, a sample, or even a thought he speaks aloud until something clicks. His iPad and headphones serve as his full studio, a place where imperfection thrives.
He describes his sound as a mix of satire, emotion, and chaos, pulling influence from a wide range of artists like Kanye West, Playboi Carti, Steve Lacy, Kendrick Lamar, and experimental groups like N.E.R.D. and Odd Future. He also draws from video game and anime soundtracks, fusing dramatic emotion with digital flair.
At the core of his artistry is the name “drtyndn,” which comes from a term people once used to joke about him. Instead of hiding from it, he turned it into his identity. His music challenges expectations of what a brown artist should sound like, funny, emotional, chaotic, and deeply honest. For drtyndn, it is about turning discomfort into confidence and self-expression.
The path has not been easy.
His humor and refusal to take things too seriously sometimes confuse people, but he embraces that. To him, the exaggeration is part of the art, a playful reflection of how others see him. One of his biggest wins came with the release of plz listen to drtyndn and performing it live in Brooklyn. Producing every track himself, he finally felt his sound come full circle. The project, created entirely on GarageBand and Logic, captures the same playful energy that started his journey.
As he looks toward the future, drtyndn continues to juggle his full-time job with his creative pursuits. His goal is to stay inspired, grow his sound, and remain independent. Whether he is making introspective tracks or chaotic anthems, his mission remains clear: to stay true to himself and build his own lane, one beat, one laugh, and one raw moment at a time.
