Cami Guellil: A Parisian Musician's Journey

Written by Alexandria Anglade

In the bustling city of Paris, where art and culture thrive on every corner, Cami Guellil found her calling as a musician. Her journey from a young girl with a passion for singing to a blossoming artist creating her own music is a testament to the power of self-discovery and following one's true path.

Cami Guellil was born into a family where music played a central role. Her father, a jazz guitarist, and her mother, a flute player, were not just enthusiasts but also nurtured her love for music. Cami's brother, too, was a singer and guitarist. From a young age, she was drawn to singing, and her mother encouraged her to take up singing lessons, specifically in the lyrical style. It was a supportive environment that allowed her to explore her passion, even when financial resources were limited. She recalls that singing was a part of her very essence, something she couldn't abandon.

While other interests like biology and literature intrigued Cami, they never resonated with her as deeply as music. She describes music as the flame that reveals her true self, making her feel whole. It was not a calculated decision to become a musician; rather, it felt like a natural, logical, and inevitable path. For Cami, music was not just a career but a way of life.

Cami's journey was not without its challenges. During her school years, she faced bullying and body-shaming for her appearance. Music provided her with a safe haven, a place where she could shine brighter than her detractors. In a classic "I'll show you" spirit, she used her music as a means of self-expression and empowerment.

Cami's musical influences include legendary artists like Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, and Lana Del Rey. Their ability to blend passion with purity in their voices is what she aspires to achieve in her compositions. Their voices resonate deep within her soul and guide her own musical endeavors.

Hailing from Brittany, a region in northwestern France, Cami frequently traveled to Paris to visit her extended family. The city's vibrant atmosphere, with its skyline, city lights, and bustling streets, ignited a desire in her to be part of it. Paris became a symbol of endless possibilities and a place where she could truly express herself. It's in Paris that she developed an affinity for electronic sounds, which she feels encapsulate the essence of city life.

Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and recent releases, Cami has yet to perform in large venues in Paris. However, her dream venue is the New Morning, a historic jazz club now open to various music genres. She envisions it as the ideal space to connect with an audience while maintaining the intimacy necessary for her music to be heard.

Cami Guellil's musical journey in Paris is a testament to the power of self-discovery and resilience. In a city known for its artistic richness, she has found her unique voice and style. Her influences from jazz legends and her personal experiences have shaped her into the artist she is today, and she looks forward to sharing her music and artistry with the world in the City of Light. Keep an eye out for her future performances and releases as she continues to make her mark on the Parisian music scene.
