Ash Caught Em, an artist and producer known for his dynamic and fluid approach to music, has a creative process that is anything but conventional. “I usually start from scratch and build a song in the original structured manner — beat, vocals, extras,” he says. “Other times, I have a concept in mind and build the song based on that.” His process remains flexible, always staying open-minded to the direction each track may take. This adaptability is key to his authenticity as an artist, allowing him to push boundaries and create music that resonates with listeners.
For Ash, the magic of a finished track isn’t about technical perfection, but about capturing the “feeling” that tells him the song is ready. “Most times, either I’m bopping my head or everyone in the studio is bopping theirs, and you just know that it’s a hit,” he explains. It’s that instinctive connection to the music that leads him to know when a track has reached its peak.
When it comes to the messages embedded in his music, Ash draws from real-life struggles, personal growth, and the desire to inspire. “The messages I usually turn to are empowerment, everyday struggle, manifestations, challenges I’m going through, and my perspective on whatever topic I’m speaking about,” he says. His songwriting may vary from painting vivid pictures to speaking raw truths — it’s all part of the artistic journey for him.
Inspiration for Ash often comes from unexpected places. “I can find inspiration just from looking around,” he shares. “It comes from experiences, feelings, current events, past situations, and things I envision for the future.” This keen sense of observation, paired with his drive to stay motivated by progress rather than outcome, keeps his creativity flowing.
Reflecting on his journey, Ash recalls a project called “Recap,” which he put together to sum up the year's work. Despite feeling the project wasn't ready for release, Ash gained a valuable lesson in the process. “I learned that everything has a step-by-step process, and anything worthwhile takes time,” he says. It was a humbling moment that emphasized the importance of patience in the creative process.
For Ash, the most rewarding aspect of his journey lies in the connections he builds with others. “The connections that you build and the moments you get to share” are the highlights of his career. He recognizes that life is an experience, and he’s grateful for every moment. As he continues to grow, Ash remains grounded, knowing that the journey itself is just as important as the destination.
A recent show in Hamilton (Ontario) marked a pivotal moment for Ash. “The next day, I had this feeling that everything is finally panning out exactly as it should, like the stars are finally aligning,” he says. This sense of fulfillment reflects his belief that the best is yet to come, and that all his hard work is paying off in ways that feel destined.
