Ajskells: Embracing the Journey and Letting Music Lead

Written by Alexandria Anglade

Ajskells, a talented male artist and music producer, has been making waves in the music scene for over a decade, constantly evolving in his creative process and the messages he shares through his art. With his upcoming project, The Great Escape of Vegas, set to drop on February 28th, Ajskells reflects on his journey, the creative process, and the ups and downs of the music industry.

When it comes to creating new music, Ajskells has become increasingly relaxed and free-spirited over time. “I usually start by just creating whatever comes to mind and letting that steer the direction the next project or idea takes me,” he shares. He emphasizes the importance of allowing ideas to develop naturally. “The best ideas always come naturally, you can never force it.” This approach allows him to remain open to new inspirations while avoiding the pressure of trying to control the creative process too rigidly.

For Ajskells, a song is ready when it feels complete—when the emotions and ideas behind the track are clearly conveyed. “When it feels like whatever idea or emotion I’m trying to convey is being properly shown and felt, that’s when I know it’s done,” he explains. He prefers not to over-complicate his work once it’s reached that point, saying he avoids doing too much to a record past its natural conclusion.

The themes of self-reflection and grappling with life's big, often unanswerable questions are central to Ajskells' music. He enjoys exploring concepts that are challenging to define or comprehend fully. “I love talking about huge ideas that seem impossible to grasp or find an answer to,” he reveals. “There’s a lot of creativity and ideas in the unknown and undefined.” This fascination with the unknown allows his work to resonate with listeners who also contemplate the complexities of life.

Despite the challenges of the music industry, Ajskells remains driven by his passion for music. “Just keep writing, keep working, and stay focused,” he says about staying motivated. His obsession with music often drives him to push through difficult times, even when it takes a toll on his well-being. “I put it over my own well-being, which I definitely need to work on,” he admits, but it’s this unyielding dedication that has shaped him as an artist.

Ajskells’ upcoming album, The Great Escape of Vegas, marks a significant turning point in his creative journey. Originally, the project was meant to be a dystopian-themed dance album, but as the process unfolded, the project took a darker, more cathartic direction. “It ended up completely different than what I’d originally planned on,” he reflects. “I locked myself in my apartment for a month and a half and just created.” The process was challenging yet transformative, and Ajskells believes the album saved his life during a difficult time. “The universe will steer you in the right direction if you let it,” he shares, looking back at the unexpected path his project took.

While the music itself is rewarding, Ajskells finds fulfillment in the community and experiences that come with being an artist. “Being able to create and share beautiful moments with other musicians and people” is what drives him. From throwing shows to having music debates with fellow artists, these connections fuel him as both a musician and a person. Even if he wasn’t an artist, Ajskells says he’d still want to be a part of the music community because of how much it’s given him.

After making music for 10 years, Ajskells feels that he is still far from having “made it.” “Absolutely not,” he responds when asked if there’s been a moment that made him feel like he’s truly arrived. “I still have a LONG, long way to go,” he says confidently. “I can count on that for sure.” Ajskells sees his journey as ongoing, with much more to accomplish, and he’s eager to see where the next steps will take him.

Ajskells’ journey is one of continual growth, exploration, and a deep passion for music. With The Great Escape of Vegas just around the corner, it’s clear that this artist’s story is only just beginning—and we can expect to hear many more powerful tracks from him in the years to come.
